Local pubs under threat:

  • Planning Application 09/01372/FUL has been submitted to demolish the New Gas Tavern on Pickersleigh Road in Malvern - details here.
  • We are keeping an eye on the Brandy Cask in Pershore
    • Planning applications to convert the Good Beer Guide listed and Grade II listed Brandy Cask pub and brewery to 8 senior citizen flats were submitted in Feb 2007 and July 2007
    • The applications came before the Wychavon Development Control Committee on 23 August 2007 and the results were: the application for change of use was REFUSED; the application for Listed Building Consent was APPROVED.     • An Appeal against the planning refusal decision has been heard by a Planning Inspectorate Inspector at a Public Hearing on 19th August 2008 and he has subsequently DISMISSED the appeal. His report can be found here. The reference for the appeal is APP/HA840/A/08/2067779.

  • We are keeping an eye on the Paul Pry in Worcester

    • Currently closed to the public but being occupied by the Landlord as a private dwelling without change of use

  • We are supporting the residents of Elmley Castle to retain the Queen Elizabeth

    • Acceptable plans W/07/01108/PN have been submitted by Admiral Taverns and approved by Wychavon District Council to renovate and reopen it - you can see them here, however Admiral Taverns have now sold the pub to a local property developer without implementing the plans.

National Campaigns:

  • The "Axe the Beer Tax - Save the Pub" campaign, run by the British Beer and Pub Association and the Campaign for Real Ale, is highlighting the plight of the British pub and is urging Government to take action to prevent pub closures, currently running at 36 every week.
